History

History

Viña Cobos was created more than 20 years ago with the intention of achieving sublime wines of outstanding quality, highlighting Malbec as the emblematic variety of Mendoza.

Paul Hobbs

A first trip to Argentina in March 1988 marked the beginning of a South American wine journey that continues today with Viña Cobos in Mendoza. He is recognized for playing a pioneering and pivotal role in launching Malbec to fame and for his contribution to helping transform Argentina into a world-class wine region.

Regarded as an international visionary for his achievements in the vineyard and the winery, Paul Hobbs combines his childhood roots on the family farm in western New York with an innovative scientific approach to refining the art of winemaking. He is recognized throughout the world for breaking with tradition and forging new paths in the pursuit of excellence; both in land stewardship and in making wines that represent the purist concept of place, leading the way in the early 1990s as a pioneer of designated wines for site-specific vineyards.
