History
Viña Cobos was created more than 25 years ago with the intention of achieving sublime wines of outstanding quality, highlighting Malbec as the emblematic variety of Mendoza.
Inspiration
Paul Hobbs arrives in Mendoza, Argentina, and it is there that he falls in love with its people, climate, and culture. The wine-growing potential and natural conditions captivated him.
Pioneer of Malbec
Paul Hobbs begins to explore and work with this grape variety, positioning it as Argentina's flagship varietal in the world years later.
Beginnings
Paul Hobbs decides to settle in Mendoza to establish Viña Cobos with the aim of studying the influence of various terroirs on Malbec.
Inaugural Harvest
Viña Cobos completes its first harvest, and with Cobos Malbec 1999, Argentina establishes itself on the global stage for high-end wines.
A flagship in the Valle de Uco
With the aim of furthering their quest for the authenticity of the Mendoza terroir, Viña Cobos acquires Chañares Estate, a vineyard located in Los Árboles, Tunuyán.
First wine to be awarded 100 points from South America
Cobos Malbec 2011 received the highest score from the international wine critic James Suckling, marking a milestone for Argentine winemaking.
Evolution of quality
A new iteration of Cobos Malbec, even more authentic and exceptional, once again earns a perfect 100-point score from critic James Suckling. Furthermore, to continue their exploration in pursuit of excellence, Viña Cobos acquired Zingaretti Estate, a vineyard located in Villa Bastías, Tupungato, Mendoza.
Consistency
For the third time in less than a decade, Cobos Malbec once again receives the highest score from the specialized critic James Suckling, reaffirming Viña Cobos as leaders in the wine industry in terms of quality and consistency. This firmly establishes Argentine wine at the highest international level.
