Vineyard

In the vineyard, each vine is managed in search of balance to maximize concentration of the aromas, structure and complexity unique to each varietal.

Los Árboles, Tunuyán, Valle de Uco
Average altitude: 1.184 m / 3.884 ft

This property covers an area of 17.3 ha (42.7 ac) planted to Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This region is characterized by poor, yet free-draining, stony and alluvial soils. The vineyard site has a northern exposure, with a west-east slope of 2.7%, encouraging air circulation and healthy vineyard conditions.

During berry maturation, average temperature is 14.4ºC (57.9°F).

Drip irrigation is used, and with the high permeability of the soil, this system helps control vineyard growth during vegetative development and grape maturation. The vineyard is spur-pruned.

Among the distinctive features of this vineyard are the native forests of Chañar trees, preserved in a nature reserve for the indigenous species of flora and fauna in the region

Perdriel, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza
Average altitude: 995 m / 3265 ft

The estate of 45 ha (111 ac), adjacent to our winery, is planted to Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot and Merlot.

The vineyard has deep free-draining soils, with textures that may vary from loamy-clay to loamy-sand, and are slightly alkaline. Deep below, there are layers of pebbles and rounded stones.

During berry maturation, average temperature is 14.4ºC (57.9°F).

A mixed irrigation system is used: surface and drip. The vineyard is spur-pruned.

The Marchiori Estate is an important part in our history. Malbec grapes grown in block C2 were the source of the inaugural vintage release, Cobos Malbec 1999.

Villa Bastías, Tupungato, Mendoza
Average altitude: 1150 m / 3372 ft

With a planted area of 7 ha (17.2 ac), it stands out for its old-vine Malbec: 4.4 ha (10.8 ac) of vines are more than 80 years old.

The silty-sand soils are situated on a steep west-east slope. Nighttime temperatures are very low, leading to a wide diurnal temperature range.

During berry maturation, average temperature is 14.9ºC (58.8°F).

Traditional furrow irrigation along the slopes and cane pruning are used.

This property has historical importance, being farmed by a pioneering family of the wine industry in the Uco Valley. The Italian José Zingaretti immigrated to Argentina at the beginning of the 20th century, bringing along his knowledge of vine growing and winemaking from his homeland. He was one of the first settlers of Tupungato, which at the time was a remote and nearly inaccessible area.

La Consulta, San Carlos, Mendoza
Average altitude: 1015 m / 3330 ft

Located in the heart of the Uco Valley, its surface of 17,7 ha (43.7 ac) has been planted with Malbec vines.

This deep, well-drained soil has thick texture and rocks at depth. It has a slight slope that favors the irrigation system. During the maturity period, the temperature range is of 14.8 ºC (58.6 °F).

Traditional furrow irrigation along the slopes and spur pruning are used.

The vineyard takes its name after the Toso Rebon family, who has owned this estate and has worked with Viña Cobos for several years, taking permanent care of the vineyard and studying the soil to select the best parcels of land.

Las Compuertas, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza
Average altitude: 1050 m / 3445 ft

This property of 3.15 ha (7 ac) is planted to Malbec.

The area is characterized by its rocky and sandy soils. The vineyard has a west-east slope of 2% incline, and a north-south slope of 1.3%, which encourages rapid drainage. In addition, the wide temperature range from day to night helps to achieve greater color intensity and aromatic concentration. During berry maturation, average temperature is 14.6ºC (58.2°F).

Furrow irrigation along the slopes and cane pruning are used.

The property has belonged to the Touza family for three generations; as stewards, they have taken great care of the vines. The original vocation of Emilio Touza’s family was viticulture and today, as ever, they continue devoting themselves to the production of high quality grapes.

Los Chacayes, Tunuyán, Mendoza
Average altitude: 1100 m / 3308 ft

From this vineyard, 4.4 ha (10 ac) are planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Boulders are present in abundance throughout the silty-sand soils, as is calcium carbonate cementation. The diverse topography in this region distinguishes areas of high elevation and low elevation, indicating where rivers used to flow through.

During berry maturation, average temperature is 16.1ºC (60.9°F).

Drip irrigation and spur pruning are used.

This property is part of an ambitious project located in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of the area.
